Greek

Right now, in Greek, I can tell whether a word is a verb, noun, adjective, adverb, preposition, article, or participle. The tense, voice, mood, number, gender, case, function is a completely different matter. I still need Machen for that sometimes, but am slooooowly getting faster. But, if I have Machen, the Bible, Dad, and this dictionary, I can put sentences into pseudo-English. (Pseudo-English is a sentence like this: "The Lord saving of the apostles was being cast down by the persecuting ruler the men in the temple." Things like that make perfect sense in Greek.)

But Dad says by the end of going through Lesson 20 in Machen, whoever does that knows ALL the grammar that shows up a lot. I also type in Greek somewhere around one word per minute because of all the nutty accents and breathings. (They have five accents and breathings--an iota subscript (it goes under the iota for who-knows-why other than to show the dative case), an acute accent, a grave accent (basically the same as the acute except for which way it points), the circumflex (which is a little curvy squiggle thingy), the smooth breathing (which exists for the sole purpose of baffling beginning Greek students), and the rough breathing (which makes an "h" sound).

(Everything comes from the Greeks. Tell Dad any word at all (even "komono") and he can tell you what word it comes from in Greek. And, they were writing philosophy when everybody else was inventing popped corn and building pyramids and figuring out new ways to confuzzle archaeologists.)

Pretty, Happy, Funny, Real

My cousin Sarah had a baby! Her name is normal, but they have a different spelling than normal, and I can never remember how to spell it. (Addilyne? Adaline? Something like that.) She's the one for whom I made this quilt:

Funny

One of our prayers for Good Friday read, "...we humbly pray You graciously to regard Your servants, especially [name], our Queen/King; [name], the Governor General; [name], the Prime Minister the Parliament; the governments of this province, and all who have authority over us..." We live in America. (But should pray for Queen Elizabeth and co. anyway.)

Real

Good Friday is my favorite fast day. Easter is my favorite holiday.

(Fast day = a day that's mournful and some people (like Roman Catholics) don't eat meat or dairy on.

Holiday = a day in the church year where something important other than a death happens, like the Annunciation.)

(If you don't know what the Annunciation is, don't look on Wikipedia because sometimes it fails epicaly with Christianity. Look on Catholic Encyclopedia online because they're thmart.)

The New Pope

The new pope has been elected! (This is the first Big World-wide Church Deal that I remember distinctly during my life. So it's exciting. Normally this is stuff I read about in Eusebius, but never really happens.)

(Once I saw a Pope's finger in an art museum when I was about five. I knew it was a relic, and that the lady who bowed in front of it was trying to knock off time in Purgatory, but knew that I shouldn't do it. And I don't know to whom the finger belonged.)

(And I am most emphatically Lutheran, but do know a lot about the Roman Catholic church. Because the Lutherans split from the Catholics, so I figured I should know about Roman Catholic theology. But I don't agree with it all.)

My First Online Quilting Project

I've never done an online link-up quilty thing before, but have wanted to, but none of them ever looked very fun. But I did find one that looked great. It's here: http://www.diaryofaquilter.com/.
